One week one consisted of social activities the good tradition of doing rounds to say "hello" to family. Bear in mind that the word "family" is used in the purely Malian context, in particular and West African context in general. First my dad took me to the elders (his brothers and sisters.) Then I did the rounds to his younger brothers and sisters alone. He doesn't have to come with me as he is older than they are.
Being back after 3 years, it's wild to see how Bamako has changed so much. For the first time I am seriously lost going to some neighborhoods that I used to know like the back of my hands. The city is in construction mode right now. New roads, buildings, and monuments are going up everywhere. My friends are having a lot fun taking me places through these new roads that are shortcuts that I didn't exist the last time I was here.
It's almost 3 p.m. here, I woke up a few hours ago but I feel like I can sleep again, I have been jet-lagged the whole time I have been here. Getting to sleep between 3a.m. and 5a.m. waking up by 9.am. max. Bamako rises early so impossible to sleep any later for me as I hear the lively daily activities taking place. For now I must run as I have a late luncheon to attend, put on by one of friends. Next time I check in I will tell tales of the famous Festival on the Niger , my cruise on Niger River, and all the great food I have been indulging.

This blog has been set up so that Siré can blog while in Mali. Of course this will mean I will need to teach him how to use a blogging system that is new to me via email, so we will see how that works.
